Was bedeutet APN?

APN steht für „Access Point Name“ und bezeichnet ein externes Netzwerk, welches vom BlackBerry aus zugänglich ist. Es ist eine Art Subnetz, bei dem der Anbieter entscheidet, welche Dienste einem Gerät zur Verfügung stehen.
Blackberry-Anwendungen wie z.B. BES, BPS, BIS, usw., welche den BlackBerry APN nutzen, werden über das Netzwerk von RIM geroutet. Anwendungen wie z.B. googleMaps, XING-Client, etc. kommunizieren über den GPRS-APN und somit nicht über das RIM-Netzwerk.
