Vor dem installieren einer neuen Firmware, empfiehlt es sich gerade bei einem großen Versionssprung, seinen BlackBerry komplett zu löschen. Da reicht aber nicht die vorgegebene Funktion „Smartphone löschen“. Hier muss man mit einem Tool namens JL_Cmder ran. Folgende Schritte sind durchzuführen:
- JL_Cmder runterladen und installieren
- Alle Daten sichern (inkl. 3rd Party Apps), da alles gelöscht wird
- Den aktuellsten BlackBerry Desktop Manager runterladen und installieren
- Die aktuellste bzw. gewünschte Firmware runterladen und installieren
- Vendor.xml löschen – Befindet sich in „X:\Programme\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader“
- BlackBerry Desktop Manager sollte nun geschlossen sein – BlackBerry über ein USB-Kabel anschließen
- JL_Cmder starten
- Eine beliebige Taste drücken (Bild 1)
- Falls am BlackBerry ein Kennwort gesetzt ist, Taste „Z“ drücken und dieses anschließen eingeben, andernfalls „N“ (Bild 2)
- Taste „4“ drücken für einen WIPE des BlackBerries (Bild 3)
- Taste „Z“ drücken um fortzufahren (Bild 4)
- Das Wort „blackberry“ eintippen
- Am BlackBerry erscheint die Fehlermeldung „Error 507″ – Das Gerät ist gewiped
